Trace a Socastee Street Directory Search, Parcel by Parcel
Socastee has no city property office or city resident roll because it is a Census-designated place within unincorporated Horry County. The useful starting point is the county parcel system. It connects a situs address to a PIN or TMS, then to the tax parcel and the recorded land trail. Work one parcel at a time. That approach is slower than a supposed street roster, but it avoids treating an owner name or tax mailing address as proof of every current resident.
- Register for the free Horry County account, then search the exact situs address in Land Records or GIS. If the match fails, omit unit punctuation, try house number and street only, or use a known owner name.
- Record the PIN or TMS, the parcel's legal description, the owner spelling, and the situs address exactly as returned. Those keys travel better than a postal-city label.
- Open the map, use its magnifying-glass search, and turn on only the layers needed to confirm the parcel position. Pan and click adjacent parcels separately if the question concerns nearby land.
- Send the owner name, a book/page reference, or the legal description to Horry County Records Search, also called Acclaim. Find the acquisition document and preserve its citation before following an earlier transfer.
- For a historical household clue, ask Socastee Library or Thompson Heritage and Research Library staff whether a verified reverse or criss-cross directory exists for the street and year. Do not assume an unpublished run is available.
This sequence keeps the Socastee street directory tied to sources that are actually address-keyed. A voter self-service page is not a street-browsing tool, and a parcel search should not be stretched into an occupant list.
Socastee Street Directory Access Now Starts with a Horry Login
Horry County announced on March 9, 2026 that, beginning March 16, a free user login is required for GIS, Land Records, and Tax and Assessor platforms that display property-address information. That change matters before any Socastee address search: the online route is no longer an anonymous click-through. The County's Assessor page still confirms that Land Records can locate a PIN by address or owner name, but the account comes first when the platform displays property-address details.
The web route is not the only access channel. The Assessor is at 1301 Second Avenue in Conway, is reachable at 843-915-5040, and lists weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. IT/GIS provides mapping support at 843-915-5240. These county counters are the practical fallback when login, browser, or parcel matching problems block a search from home.
Horry County's March 2026 access notice explains the free-account change for the platforms used in this workflow.
The Horry County GIS entry page is the source for the recorded interface shown here.
The GIS entry screen is a reminder that parcel data are prepared for tax purposes. It helps place a parcel on the map, but it is not a survey or a substitute for a recorded plat.
Socastee Street Directory Keys in Horry Land Records
County research documents four ways to reach the same property record: address, owner, PIN, and TMS. The Assessor explicitly points a visitor without a PIN toward Land Records by address or owner name. Flood-GIS instructions also identify Owner, Address, PIN, and TMS as usable keys. Because the authenticated result view was not publicly inspectable, the table identifies verified entry paths, not an invented list of result-card fields.
| Horry entry key | When to use it | What it connects | Important limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Address | You know the situs street address | Property record and PIN/TMS | Try a normalized street form if punctuation or a unit blocks a match. |
| Owner | You have a likely owner of record | Parcel and assessment context | An owner can have more than one parcel. |
| PIN | You have the county parcel identifier | Land-record and map context | Keep the digits exactly as the County displays them. |
| TMS | A document or county record gives the tax-map number | Parcel identity across county sources | It is a property key, not a resident identifier. |
Use the PIN or TMS as the bridge to a map, a planning file, or a deed description. It is more reliable than guessing from a road name alone, especially where a mailing label uses Myrtle Beach while the physical place is Socastee.
Map the Socastee Street Directory by Parcel, Not by Household
Horry GIS supplies parcel location and any enabled map-layer context. After finding the target, pan or zoom to the relevant part of the road and click parcels one by one. The County describes a magnifying-glass property search and a layers control, but the public research did not verify a radius tool, a street-wide export, or an automatic neighbor report. The honest method is parcel-by-parcel map review.
That method is especially useful around a subdivision, plat, or a road whose postal wording is inconsistent. It can show which taxable parcels are spatially adjacent and lets the researcher preserve the separate PIN/TMS and owner-of-record for each. It does not establish a survey boundary, create a household roster, or identify people who are not named in land records.
Note. When a parcel edge affects a legal question, obtain the recorded plat or consult the appropriate professional; the County's GIS disclaimer says its parcel fabric is for taxation rather than a survey.
Carry a Socastee Street Directory Address into Acclaim
The Register of Deeds keeps recorded land instruments such as deeds, mortgages, and plats. Its Acclaim landing page offers official-record searches by Name, Book/Page, New Legal Description, Legal Description/Memo, Document Type, Consideration, and Record Date. Start with the address-derived owner name as a grantee, or use the parcel description when the street wording is not enough. A book/page citation is the strongest bridge once it is known.
Acclaim tells users to search spelling variants. That matters for initials, punctuation, surname order, and older record styles. The portal does not publish its first online-index year, so an empty result is not proof that a recording never existed. For older books or questions about coverage, use the Register of Deeds public room at 1301 Second Avenue, Conway, call 843-915-5430, or mail the office at P.O. Box 470, Conway, SC 29528.
When an image carries a redaction bar, the County says paid removal lasts 24 hours before it returns. Note the document citation while it is visible. A complete legal description, rather than only a familiar street name, is what lets one transfer be matched to the next.
Socastee Street Directory Records and the Questions They Answer
Address-based sources do different jobs. Combining them can explain a parcel's identity, location, transfer trail, and project context. It cannot turn the result into a census of everyone at an address. The following Horry County record sets are the documented options for a Socastee street search, including the access fallback where the web view is gated or incomplete.
| Address-linked source | County keeper | What it may establish | Access route and boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Land Records and Assessor | Horry County Assessor | Owner of record, parcel identity, PIN/TMS, situs and tax context | Free account, Assessor counter, or 843-915-5040; not every current resident. |
| GIS parcel map | Horry IT/GIS | Parcel position, nearby taxable parcels, available layers | Authenticated GIS and IT/GIS support; tax map, not survey. |
| Recorded instruments | Horry Register of Deeds | Parties, legal description, record date, book/page and transfer path | Acclaim, then Register counter; does not prove current occupancy. |
| Planning or plan material | Horry Planning and Zoning | Owner or applicant, PIN, road, zoning, and project context | Account submission route, counter, or specific county FOIA request; not a household history. |
| Historic directory or newspaper | HCML, Thompson Heritage, or Historical Society | A period-specific listed household or contact | Ask staff for a verified title/year; does not prove title ownership or all occupants. |
Horry County's public information team accepts focused records requests through the county FOIA route. Give a date range, custodian, address or PIN, and record category. South Carolina FOIA is a way to ask for existing non-exempt county records, not a request for the County to assemble a street-resident list.
Why a Socastee Street Directory Needs More Than a Mailing Address
A parcel can have a situs address, an owner mailing address, and a legal description, and each means something different. The situs address locates the property. A mailing address tells the tax office where the owner receives mail, which might be a post-office box, agent, trust, seasonal address, or another property. The legal description, such as a lot, block, subdivision, or metes-and-bounds description, is the recorded land identifier that carries through a deed chain.
- Parcel
- A taxable tract or property unit identified in county land records, often tied to a PIN or TMS.
- Situs address
- The physical street address used to locate the property, distinct from an owner mailing address.
- Plat
- A recorded map that can connect an address with a subdivision, lot, block, or parcel layout.
- Criss-cross directory
- A historical directory arranged by street and house number, if a library confirms that a relevant volume exists.
For Socastee, the distinction can be more visible because a 29588 address may carry either Socastee or Myrtle Beach postal wording. Keep the road, PIN/TMS, and legal description together rather than treating the postal city as a jurisdiction decision.
Horry Planning Files Behind a Socastee Street Directory Address
County Addressing and Planning and Zoning, not a Socastee municipal office, administer the underlying structure address. Horry's Address Request Form asks for such details as a PIN, subdivision or mobile-home-park name, owner name, existing address, driveway road, and whether the request follows a division of land. County guidance says addresses are issued to structures only, with one number assigned per 20 feet of road frontage, and that review considers development status, parcel acreage or site plan, and road frontage.
The form gives Addressing@horrycountysc.gov and a 3 to 5 business-day review window; Planning and Zoning can also be reached at 843-915-5340. An address request explains how a structure address was assigned. It is not evidence of present occupants. For a specific disclosable plan or code file, identify the address or PIN, describe the desired record, and use the Planning counter or a narrowly framed county FOIA request. No public, ordinary-person permit or code-enforcement result page was verified.
Historical Leads for the Socastee Street Directory
The local historical layer is a staff question, not a promise of a searchable online run. Socastee Library is at 141 707-Connector Road, and the Horry County Memorial Library system lists in-library genealogy and local-history resources, historic newspapers, the Horry County Archives Center, and referrals to the Horry County Historical Society. The Thompson Heritage and Research Library opened in Conway on January 30, 2025 and is the better escalation point for a verified directory, telephone book, yearbook, obituary, cemetery, newspaper, or vertical-file lead.
If staff confirm a reverse directory, copy its exact title, year, volume, page, and street entry, then compare it with a conventional directory and census period. Treat it as a dated listing, not a title record. The site's Socastee directory book guide explains the collection limits and how to preserve a citation when a verified volume is found.
What the Socastee Street Directory Cannot Identify
Tax records identify an owner of record, not every person who lives at a property. A current resident may be a spouse, adult child, or another household member with no appearance in a tax roll or recorded-document index. Private utility, delivery, and motor-vehicle residential data are not part of the street workflow. MySCVotes is a credentialed personal-registration check that requires county, first name, last name, date of birth, and the last four digits of an SSN; it is not a way to browse a road.
A South Carolina voter list can be purchased only by a registered South Carolina voter under the state's stated conditions, and it has geographic and household criteria rather than a public street-browser function. The Election Commission also warns about the statutory restriction on using public records for commercial solicitation. Address Confidentiality Program participants and other protected records need special care, and an incomplete result should never be used to draw conclusions about a household.
Lawful use. Use Socastee street records for a legitimate personal question, family history, estate research, or property curiosity. Do not use address information to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm anyone, and verify a record with its custodian before relying on it.
