Socastee Neighbor Records Around a Block
Socastee is an unincorporated Horry County community, so county systems hold the records that might otherwise sit in a city office. The most dependable block method is parcel by parcel. Horry GIS supplies the mapped context, Land Records ties an address or owner name to a PIN or TMS, and the Register of Deeds can follow a documented transfer. Each source is narrower than a list of people living nearby. A parcel can show an owner of record and a map position; it cannot establish every occupant of that property.
| Block Source | What It Shows About a Block | Access and Boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Horry GIS parcels | Mapped taxable parcels adjoining or near a selected parcel, plus enabled layers | Authenticated access; parcel fabric is for taxing and is not a survey. |
| Land Records / Assessor | Owner of record and address-to-PIN/TMS connection | Free county account for property-address display; owner may have a different mailing address. |
| Acclaim deed index | Transfer trail, party names, record date, and legal-description continuity | Use the named parcel or owner; it does not establish present occupancy. |
| Planning file | Road, lot, owner-applicant, or project context when a specific file is public | Request an exact PIN or file through Planning or a narrow FOIA request. |
| Voter records | A voter’s own registration or an authorized list channel | Credentialed lookup and statutory limits, not public block browsing. |
| Community contacts | Voluntary contact only when separately published | No verified public Socastee HOA, association, or block-watch roster was located. |
Keep the difference between parcel owner, tax mailing contact, and occupant clear. An owner can receive mail at another location, through a post office box, or through an authorized contact. A person at the address may not appear in the parcel or deed index at all. That limitation is central to any careful search for Socastee neighbors.
Socastee Neighbors and the Login Change
Horry County announced on March 9, 2026 that, beginning March 16, a free county user login would be required for GIS, Land Records, and Tax and Assessor platforms that display property-address information. Create the account before expecting a map or owner search to work. This is an access change, not a new public neighbor directory. The Assessor and IT/GIS counters remain the practical alternatives when online access fails or an older record needs an office answer.
The Horry parcel-login page shows the county access screen for the address-based parcel route.
After access is granted, preserve the target property’s PIN or TMS before moving around the map. A stable parcel identifier is more reliable than a postal label when comparing adjacent property records. The County's published notice is also a reason to avoid promising anonymous, one-click access.
Map a Socastee Neighbor Block by Parcel
Use the adjacent-parcel method for the immediate block. Horry’s published GIS guidance says the map magnifying glass can locate a property and the layers control can turn map layers on. The research did not verify a buffer-radius or automatic-neighbors control in the current interface. Pan from the target and select bordering parcels one at a time instead. On large tracts, private roads, shared common areas, easements, condominiums, and plats, a nearby shape may not mean the same thing as a simple side-by-side lot.
- Sign in to the Horry parcel system and locate the target with the available address, owner, PIN, or TMS search path. Save its situs address, PIN/TMS, and legal description.
- Pan and click each bordering parcel. Record each parcel’s PIN/TMS and owner of record separately rather than merging several properties into one note.
- Compare the parcel outline and available layers as tax-map context only. A recorded plat, survey, or professional is the route for a legal boundary question.
- Send only a needed owner name or legal description to Acclaim for a transfer trail. For a whole named street, use the fuller Socastee street directory workflow instead.
This method produces reproducible parcel notes without claiming a public household roster. It also leaves a clear path back to the exact map item if an owner name or address changes later.
Socastee Neighbors: Owners Are Not Households
The same parcel can hold several distinct facts. The situs address is the physical parcel location. A mailing address is where the tax custodian sends correspondence, and it may belong to an owner who lives elsewhere, a post office box, or an authorized contact. The legal description is the lot, block, subdivision, or metes-and-bounds wording that connects the land to a deed even if an address changes. None of those fields supplies a complete list of people at the property.
- PIN or TMS
- A county parcel identifier. It is the most useful bridge from a map result to tax and deed research.
- Situs address
- The physical location of the parcel. It is different from a tax mailing address.
- Legal description
- The recorded land description, such as a lot and subdivision or metes-and-bounds text, used to keep a deed trail on the correct parcel.
Private utility records, delivery information, motor-vehicle residential data, protected addresses, and private association rosters are not part of the block workflow. South Carolina's Address Confidentiality Program must be handled through its custodian. The research did not locate a current official program enrollment page, so eligibility or a removal procedure should not be assumed.
Note: An owner name and a mailing address may be useful record clues, but neither one identifies all people at a neighboring property.
Socastee Neighbor Deed Trails When Needed
For a limited transfer question, start from the parcel’s exact legal description rather than a house number alone. The Horry County Acclaim portal offers Name, Book/Page, New Legal Description, Legal Description/Memo, Document Type, Consideration, and Record Date search modes. Search the current owner as grantee to find an acquisition, retain the grantor, record date, and available citation, then compare the legal description or PIN/TMS at each handoff. Book/Page and legal-description modes help when a party name is indexed differently.
The Register of Deeds does not publish the first year of the online index. When a transfer chain reaches its first online result, verify older-book availability at the Register counter rather than inventing a cutoff. Its public room and staff are a fallback for a cited book, page, or legal description. The portal also warns that paid image unredaction lasts 24 hours before redaction bars return, so preserve lawful citations while reviewing a record.
Socastee Neighbors Cannot Be Browsed in MySCVotes
MySCVotes is a protected self-service confirmation tool. The voter enters Horry County, first name, last name, date of birth, and the last four digits of the Social Security number as they appear on the registration card. It is not a public street or block directory. The statewide voter-list channel has its own eligibility rules: a purchaser must be a registered South Carolina voter under S.C. Code §7-3-20(D)(13), and the Election Commission warns against commercial solicitation under §30-2-50.
Voter participation indicates an election was participated in, not a ballot choice. No authoritative Horry poll-book, register collection, or Socastee precinct series was located for historical block research. For an old community question, ask the election office, library, archives, or Historical Society about a specific collection instead of assuming one exists.
Socastee Neighbor Contacts Are Voluntary
No official umbrella list of Socastee HOAs, neighborhood associations, member rosters, or block-watch directories was verified. County planning material names communities and corridors, but that does not make a household list public. The Horry County Historical Society is a historical civic organization, not a current neighbor directory. Library programs and local-history contacts can be places to ask about public events or collection access, but they are not an address-list route.
Socastee Library
Horry County Memorial Library lists the local branch at 141 707-Connector Road, Socastee, with genealogy and local-history referrals.
Thompson Heritage Library
Thompson Heritage and Research Library opened in Conway in 2025 as a local-history research referral point.
Horry Historical Society
The Historical Society preserves newspapers, oral histories, genealogies, photographs, and markers, not a present-day Socastee resident roster.
Note: Ask staff about access restrictions and donor terms before expecting a historic collection to contain publicly indexed names or addresses.
Socastee Neighbor Sources Compared
Official records and commercial neighbor tools answer different questions. The official parcel and deed routes have named custodians, defined search keys, and clear limits. Commercial tools are a category that can compile records with errors and delay. They are not a substitute for a county parcel, a recorded document, or a custodian-held case file, and no commercial service is used as a source here.
| Source Type | Useful For | Limit to Keep in Mind |
|---|---|---|
| Official parcel and GIS records | Tax parcel location, owner of record, PIN/TMS, and available map context | Tax map data are not a survey and do not list all occupants. |
| Recorded deed index | Named transfer trail and legal-description continuity | A deed documents a transfer, not a current household. |
| Commercial neighbor tools | Potential leads that require independent confirmation | Compiled data can be stale, merged, incomplete, or wrong. |
Privacy Limits on Socastee Neighbor Records
Public-record access does not erase privacy boundaries. South Carolina FOIA and record-specific laws restrict many personal records, while court files can contain sealed or confidential material. County parcel data can identify an owner of record, but it does not establish the identity of each person nearby. A map screen is also not a legal survey, and a postal address is not proof of a Socastee CDP boundary. Treat the available information as limited record context, not permission to monitor a block.
A narrow Horry County FOIA request can seek a defined existing, non-exempt county record by date range, custodian, address, PIN, or record category. It cannot compel the County to create a new neighbor report. For a property-data question, contact the Assessor or IT/GIS; for a recorded-document question, contact the Register of Deeds. Correcting a record with its custodian is safer than repeating an unverified claim.
Lawful use. Use Socastee neighbor records for lawful personal research, property context, reconnecting, or consumer safety. Never use them to stalk, harass, intimidate, or harm another person.
