Why This Reference Exists
Socastee records are spread across Horry County offices and statewide custodians. The Assessor and Register of Deeds keep parcel and recorded-land trails. The Clerk, Probate Court, and Judicial Branch handle separate court paths. Horry County Memorial Library and the Thompson Heritage and Research Library are practical local-history starting points. A reader should not have to guess which office holds which kind of record, especially because Socastee has no incorporated city government to serve as a catchall.
What the Directory Organizes
- Search angles: the street directory, the historical Directory Book, and the one-person resident lookup.
- Custodian routes: Horry property, recorded land, elections, court, probate, vital-record, library, and archive contacts.
- Practical methods: how an address connects to a parcel key, a deed trail, a court case number, or a historical collection.
- Access boundaries: South Carolina Freedom of Information Act procedures, confidential records, and direct-custodian verification.
