Finding Socastee Resident Records
Socastee is a Census-designated place in unincorporated Horry County. It has no city clerk, municipal court, city property roll, or Socastee City Hall records counter. That changes the first stop in a Socastee residents directory search. Horry County Land Records can connect an address or owner name to a PIN or TMS. The Register of Deeds can connect that property to recorded parties and legal descriptions. A named court matter belongs in the South Carolina Judicial Branch Public Index, while an estate or marriage-license question may belong with Horry Probate. Each route answers a narrower question than a broad household list.
Start with an exact name or address, then save the keys each office uses. An owner name, a PIN/TMS, a recorded book and page, and a court case number make later checks more reliable. Use two independent records before treating a match as the same person. The property roll identifies an owner of record, not all occupants. MySCVotes is a protected self-service registration confirmation, not a browseable residents directory. For older Socastee households, library and archive staff can help identify a real title or collection before it is cited.
- For an address or a known owner, create the free Horry account now required for property-address displays, then locate the parcel and retain its PIN or TMS.
- Use the owner spelling and legal description in the Horry County Records Search to look for related recorded documents.
- For a case or estate trail, use the Horry court endpoint or contact the appropriate Clerk or Probate division with the precise name and any case number.
- For an older household, ask Horry County Memorial Library or Thompson Heritage staff for the catalog, exact title, and access terms of any directory, newspaper, or genealogy source.
- When an existing county record is not online, make a narrow request to its custodian under the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act rather than asking for a new compiled resident list.
Socastee Resident Records Offices
Horry County offices in Conway hold the core records used for Socastee resident research. The Assessor keeps property valuation and ownership information. The Register of Deeds keeps deeds, mortgages, plats, and other recorded land instruments. Probate handles estates, wills, guardianships, and marriage licenses, while the Clerk handles Circuit and Family Court services. The Board of Voter Registration and Elections administers local election work, but the online voter tool protects access with personal credentials. For a full address-based sequence, use the Socastee street directory record trail.

Socastee Parcel Access Changed
Horry County announced that a free user login became required on March 16, 2026 for GIS, Land Records, and Tax and Assessor platforms that show property-address information. That requirement is the first online step for a Socastee residents directory search using an address. The public login screen offers username, password, registration, and recovery controls. It does not expose a post-login parcel result card, so fields beyond the published search methods should not be assumed. The Assessor still directs a user without a PIN to Land Records for an address or owner-name search.
Older County GIS instructions identify TMS number, PIN number, owner, and address as property-search choices. Treat those as a useful Horry field inventory, not a guarantee about the current authenticated screen. The public GIS entry also says the parcel fabric is for tax purposes and is not a survey. A recorded plat, legal description, or professional survey is the route for a boundary decision. If online access fails, call the Assessor at 843-915-5040 or use its Conway counter.
| Horry search control | Use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| TMS or PIN | Bridges parcel, tax, and deed research | Keep the identifier with the address. |
| Owner | Finds an owner of record | An owner is not necessarily an occupant. |
| Address | Finds a situs or physical parcel location | Property-address display requires a free account. |
| Map layers | Adds available parcel or flood context | GIS display is not a legal boundary survey. |
Note: A PIN or TMS is often a more stable research key than a postal-city label for a Socastee address.
Socastee Deed Name Trails
The Acclaim official-records landing page offers seven search modes: Name, Book/Page, New Legal Description, Legal Description/Memo, Document Type, Consideration, and Record Date. Name search means grantor and grantee parties, so it can reveal a recorded transaction involving a person without proving current residence. Search spelling variants. Horry specifically advises this because initials, punctuation, surname order, and other variations can divide an older record trail. The landing page does not publish a first online index year, so ask the Register of Deeds about earlier books or microfilm before treating the first online result as the beginning.
For an address, begin with the present owner and legal description from the parcel record. Search the buyer as grantee to locate the acquisition document. Copy the seller's name, book and page or document reference, then search that seller as a grantee for the earlier acquisition. Compare the legal description, lot and block, subdivision, or PIN at every handoff. A street number alone can point to the wrong parcel. Horry also reports that paid removal of an image redaction bar lasts 24 hours before it returns, so save allowed citations while viewing.
- Parcel
- A taxed unit of real property, commonly identified by a Horry PIN or TMS.
- Index
- A finding aid to records, which may not include every image or certified copy.
- Grantor and grantee
- The party transferring an interest and the party receiving it in a recorded instrument.
- Legal description
- The lot, subdivision, or metes-and-bounds wording that ties a document to land.
Socastee Courts and Estate Trails
A named Socastee resident may appear in a court or probate record, but those systems have separate jobs. The Horry Public Index allows a user who lacks a case number to search by party name or other criteria and limit by county. Official help describes Begins With and Contains options, as well as court and case-type filters. A case number is more dependable than a common name because it encodes the year, court type, county code, and sequence. Sealed, confidential, and expunged material is not available in the public system.
Horry Probate is the better route for estates, wills, guardianships, and marriage licenses. Its forms include an Estate-only Records Request, an office-mediated option when a document is not accessible through a general search. The Clerk's Conway main counter and South Strand office provide a separate courthouse route for Circuit and Family Court questions. Ask the division about copy rates and whether an older file is on site before traveling. For federal cases, use PACER; it does not replace the Horry state index.
Socastee Vital Record Boundaries
The South Carolina Department of Public Health is the statewide custodian for certified births, deaths, marriages, and divorces in its stated coverage. A current vital record is not a public name-search product. Eligibility, photo identification, relationship, delivery details, and the record type control an application. DPH offers mail, online, phone, and in-person regional-office routes. Its state office is a fallback when a Socastee event needs a certified record rather than an index clue.
State law makes birth records publicly viewable after 100 years and death records public after 50 years. DPH posts marriage-certificate coverage from July 1950 through December 2023. Horry Probate is the county fallback for a Horry marriage license before July 1950 or after December 2023. A public-period death notice, an obituary, and an estate file can be a careful heir trail, but none should be turned into a claim about a living person's address.
Current Socastee Resident Directories
There is no single official Socastee household roll. Instead, the useful current Socastee residents directory sources each identify a different relationship. Horry Land Records identifies a property owner of record. Acclaim identifies parties in recorded land instruments. The Judicial Public Index identifies parties in eligible court matters. MySCVotes lets an individual access their own registration details after a county, name, date-of-birth, and last-four-SSN match. A state voter-list purchase is a separate, limited route available only to registered South Carolina voters under the statute and its use restrictions.
| Source | Who It Lists | Keeper | Access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Land Records and parcel map | Owner of record and parcel context | Horry Assessor / IT-GIS | Free county account, counter, or phone |
| Acclaim recorded-document index | Grantors, grantees, and recorded instruments | Horry Register of Deeds | Online landing page, then counter |
| Horry Public Index | Eligible court parties and case detail | South Carolina Judicial Branch | County-limited online search, Clerk confirmation |
| MySCVotes | A voter's own registration information | South Carolina Election Commission | Credentialed self-service, not browsing |
| Probate estate records | Estate, will, representative, or marriage route | Horry Probate Court | Office inquiry and Estate-only Records Request |
For a single person, use the Socastee resident lookup sequence to keep similar names separated. No official Socastee HOA roster, congregation list, club list, or university alumni directory was verified during this research. Library and archive staff can advise on donor restrictions or onsite collections, but a private member roster should not be assumed public.
Socastee Voter Information Limits
MySCVotes requires County, First Name, Last Name, Date of Birth, and the last four digits of a Social Security number. A Socastee voter selects Horry County and enters information as it appears on the registration card. This protects the tool from serving as a public resident browse function. It can help a voter confirm or update their own registration, sample-ballot, polling-place, and voting-history information.
A full voter file is a different channel. The Election Commission says a registered South Carolina voter may purchase a list under S.C. Code §7-3-20(D)(13), with selectable county, district, household, registration-date, and participation criteria. The law and the Election Commission's notice restrict commercial solicitation use of public records. For local process questions, contact Horry County Board of Voter Registration and Elections rather than treating a web search as a street roster.
Socastee Library History Routes
Socastee Library at 141 707-Connector Road is the nearby starting point for a printed or archival trail. Horry County Memorial Library's Adult Resources identify FamilySearch, HeritageQuest Online, Find a Grave, historic newspapers, the Horry County Archives Center at Coastal Carolina University Digital Commons, the Horry County Historical Society, and other local-history channels. Ancestry Library Edition is marked for in-library use. That access distinction matters when a search works at a branch but not from home.
For deeper work, Horry County opened the Thompson Heritage and Research Library in Conway on January 30, 2025. It is a referral point for asking staff to identify an actual directory title, a reverse listing, a telephone book, an obituary file, a cemetery transcription, or a relevant newspaper run. The official pages did not verify a standalone Socastee city-directory series, publisher, year range, or digitized entry. Research should begin with the catalog and title page, not an assumed directory run.
Socastee Official Record Scopes
Horry County Bookings and Releases is a current custody and release channel, not a criminal-history archive. Its County page warns that the Sheriff's Office will never take a payment by phone, and it directs bonds to Magistrate's Court or Booking. Record scope matters: county detention, state prison, court cases, and a registry are different systems. A result in one does not establish a conclusion about another.
The County capture is a reminder to use the official source and its stated contact route, especially when a page concerns present custody rather than a broad resident record.
SLED's South Carolina Sex Offender Registry has name and geographic search tools, a CAPTCHA, notices, and removal information. It may change quickly and is not an individualized warning or proof of present residence. Use it only for lawful personal-safety awareness. Never confront, harass, or harm someone based on an index entry.
The official registry screen keeps its own scope and warnings visible, which is why it should not be merged with court, property, or voter results.
Socastee Heir and Claim Clues
The South Carolina Unclaimed Property Program can be useful when an estate or old address research trail raises a legitimate ownership question. It supports name searching, claim-status checks, document upload, and reports. The Treasurer says rightful owners and heirs face no claim deadline in its cited 2023 guidance. A name match still requires documentation proving entitlement, and the search is not a substitute for a resident list.
Use the official claim route when a record suggests money may belong to an owner or estate, then let the Treasurer determine whether the documents support the claim.
Historical Socastee Resident Directories
Socastee's older record trail begins before its present CDP label. County preservation material places “Sawkastee” in a 1711 land grant and describes nineteenth-century naval-stores activity. The historic district includes buildings and landmarks dated from 1881 through 1936. That history makes deeds, plats, probate material, newspapers, oral histories, photographs, and genealogy collections especially valuable. It does not justify inventing a local directory series that the official and library pages did not publish.
The Horry County Historical Society lists historical newspapers, oral histories, genealogies, photograph collections, the Independent Republic Quarterly, and other Horry sources. A nearby 1938 Sanborn map is for Conway, not Socastee, and should never be presented as a Socastee house-history map. For collection-level help, use the Socastee Directory Book route, then confirm a volume's coverage, title page, and access terms with the holding institution.
Socastee Records Need Careful Use
South Carolina's Freedom of Information Act, S.C. Code Ann. §30-4-10 et seq., supports inspection, copying, or electronic transmission of existing public-body records subject to exemptions and other law. It does not require Horry County to create a new electronic report, disclose protected addresses, or open juvenile, sealed, confidential, or eligibility-restricted vital material. Horry's online FOIA route asks for a valid email and a specific description. A request that identifies a custodian, date range, address or PIN, and record category is more useful than a vague request for resident information.
Note: The custodian, not a search result, decides whether a record is public, complete, current, and eligible for a certified copy.
